About Recreation Railways

Recreating railways anywhere and everywhere

We are a family run business operating a "portable" 7 1/4" gauge railway for education, funĀ and pleasure. There are two themes that define our business:

Re-creation (verb): To create anew.

Each year we undertake one Re-creation Railway event where we operate along a disused railway line, usually where there is little prospect of the route operating as a heritage railway in the forseeable future. Our debut event recreated steam on the Somerset and Dorset line over the magnificent 27-arch viaduct at Charlton Road.

Recreation (noun): pleasurable pastime or employment

The "portable" nature of our railway (Tinkerbell No. 3 weighs half a ton!) allows us to take the magic of steam out to schools, fetes and private parties.

Our regular haunts are the miniature railway at the East Somerset Railway's Cranmore station, which we helped construct, and the Hunters Rest Inn at Clutton where we assist running services on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.
